The Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN) is a non-profit interest group composed of 25 ecolabel organisations throughout the world representing 50 countries and territories. Six associate members expand its inlfluence and partnership through other like-minded environmental organisations. GEN was established in 1994 and its precursor, the German Blue Angel was established in 1978. The goal of the network is to further the exchange of information between national ecolabel organisations that operate "Type 1" ecolabels, the strongest category, as defined by ISO 14024. Ecolabels are "licensed" for use only after a product or service is proven to meet transparent, published standards for environmental preferability, verified by a qualified, independant, third party, and assessed over multiple environmental parameters (not just one single issue). The ecolabels are an assurance to consumers and procurement professionals that a product or service is proven "green" and has high environmental values and integrity. ==Members== *Australia - Good Environmental Choice Australia *Brazil - Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas (ABNT) - Brazilian National Standards Organization *China - China Environmental United Certification Center *Croatia - Ministry of Environmental Protection and Physical Planning *EU - European Commission - DG ENVIRONMENT (G2) *Germany - Federal Environmental Agency (FEA) *Hong Kong (GC) - Green Council *Hong Kong (HKFEP) - Hong Kong Federation of Environmental Protection (HKFEP) Limited *Indonesia - Ministry of Environment *Israel - The Standards Insitution of Israel *Japan - Japan Environment Association (JEA) *Korea - Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI) *Malaysia - SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd *New Zealand - Environmental Choice New Zealand *Nordic 5 Countries - Nordic Ecolabelling Board *North America (Canada) - UL Environment(()) *North America (U.S.A.) - Green Seal *Philippines - Philippine Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, Inc.
